L'ancien président réformateur iranien Mohammed Khatami a pour la première fois évoqué sa possible candidature pour la prochaine présidentielle en 2009, en posant des conditions. Pour se porter candidat à la présidentielle du 12 juin prochain, Khatami a demandé qu'il y ait "une entente avec le peuple sur ses attentes" et ensuite qu'il puisse "mettre en œuvre ses programmes", selon ses propos reproduits par plusieurs journaux iraniens. De nombreux partis politiques et personnalités du camp réformateur ont appelé ces derniers mois l'ancien président à se porter candidat, mais c'est la première fois que Mohammed Khatami évoque ouvertement sa candidature.
