El Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU aprobó el miércoles la extensión del mandato de las fuerzas internacionales de paz UNIFIL al sur de Líbano, el cual iba a vencer a fin de mes. Por su parte, tanto Israel como Líbano aprovecharon la sesión para criticar a la otra parte por violar la resolución 1701 que puso fin a la Segunda Guerra de Líbano. Israel dijo que las tropas de UNIFIL no impiden el rearme de Hizbolá ni el contrabando de armas desde Siria. Líbano afirma que las amenazas permanentes de Israel podrían pasar a la acción.
