Keren Kayemet Le'Israel- the Jewish National Fund, has made a massive impact in recent years, saving tens of thousands of dunams of agricultural produce from drying out by establishing over 200 water reservoirs throughout the country. An 18 day car rally during which participants raised funds for Israel was their way of saluting the 60th anniversary celebrations of the State and 40 years to the reunification of the capital. Twenty eight vintage cars some as old as Israel made their way from Britain, via France, Switzerland, Italy and Greece before flying with their cars to Israel where after visiting Sderot and Eilat returned to Jerusalem to wind up the rally. The Keren Kayemet LeYisrael (JNF) has embarked on an ambitious project of rehabilitating the forests of northern Israel, many of which burnt down after suffering Katyusha rocket attacks during the Second Lebanon War. The KKL is aided by donors and young volunteers worldwide.
KKL chose to celebrate Tu Bishvat, the Jewish festival of trees, in the city of Sderot, which is still suffering from constant Qassam rocket attacks. KKL is promoting development projects in the city and the surrounding areas, to make the Negev green, so it can be enjoyed by all.
