Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is expected to invite Jordan's King Abdullah II to visit Israel when the two meet later today. Vice Premier Shimon Peres will accompany Olmert on the trip, the two will first attend a Nobel Prize laureate conference in Petra and will then meet with the king in Aqaba later in the day.
Olmert and King Abdullah are expected to discuss the Arab peace initiative,the situation in Gaza, bilateral ties and efforts made to release IDF soldier Gilad Schalit.
Sources close to Olmert said the prime minister intends to extend an invitation to King Abdullah when the two meet up later today.
Initially today's meeting was to have been a trilateral one that included Olmert, King Abdullah II and PA President Mahmoud Abbas. However the prime minister's office said that Olmert is expected to meet Abbas some time next week in Jericho.
On Monday, the king's bureau announced that there would be no press conference following Olmert and Abdullah's meeting.05/15/07.
