A day after Israel announced a unilateral cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, six key European leaders on Sunday stressed their support for Israel stating Hamas must halt rocket fire on Israeli communities and declared that the unilateral cease fire called by Israel should pave the way for peace between Israel and the Palestinians. In an unprecedented show of support for Israel,British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel , Italian President Silvio Berlusconi, Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, who is current holder of the European Union Presidency gathered at Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s Jerusalem residence, after attending the Sharm E Sheikh conference sponsored by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
