The air force  carried out two air-strikes against Palestinian rocket-launching squads in the Gaza Strip on saturday night capping the weekend in which over 20 kassam rockets and mortar shells were fired at Israel.
Palestinian sources reported that two terrorists were injured in the second attack, one of them critically.
On Sunday morning, a rocket landed in the Eshkol region. No casualties or damage were reported
Palestinian groups said the weekend rocket barrage was in response to violence by settler against Arabs in Hebron,
which broke out Thursday night following the evacuation of the city's disputed Beit Hashalom.
Despite the escalation in rocket attacks Defense Minister Ehud Barak reportedly does not favor
launching a large scale operation in Gaza.
In recent weeks, one of Barak's top aides, Amos Gilad, has held a number of high-level talks
with the Egyptians about extending the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, which is due to expire on December 19.
Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Sunday that the cease fire with Hamas should be re assessed especially taking into account the fact that it did not bring about a cessation to rocket attacks on southern Israel and was unsuccessful in contributing to soldier Gilad Schalit's release.
With twelve days left to the expiration of the cease fire and general elections looming on the horizon,
Livni said she would raise the issue at this morning's cabinet meeting.12/07/08
