A bomb scare on an El Al flight from Paris ended safely on Wednesday evening, after the plane escorted by two Israeli Air Force jets landed safely at Ben Gurion Airport.
A short time after the plane took off from Paris, French authorities received information that a bomb had been placed on board the plane and immediately alerted Israel. Throughout the flight, the plane was escorted by military jets from different countries located along its flight path, once the plane entered Israeli air space, two Air Force jets took their place. Had the plane veered or strayed from the planned flight path, the fighter jet pilots would have had to shoot it down.
Once on the ground, the passengers were escorted to safety and special security units were dispatched to search the plane, but failed to find a bomb. Transport Ministry officials praised the cooperation between Israel and security officials in countries along the plane’s flight path that escorted the plane throughout its route. 09/24/08
