Almost three years ago, in November  2005 former Prime Minister and ex army general Ariel Sharon founded the Kadima party changing the political balance between the two major parties that had ruled in Israel the Labour party and Likud. During the period Sharon was in power he initiated the disengagement from the Gaza Strip, a move that was harshly criticized but at the same time received wide public approval. In January 2006 and just months ahead of a planned general election Sharon suffered a stroke and was replaced by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Forced to resign over a hefty police investigation on corruption charges that may lead to an indictment, a date was set for Kadima primaries and party members will have to choose a new party leader. Currently four government ministers Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz, Minister of Interior Meir Sheetrit and Public Security Minister Avi Dichter are vying for party leadership and the post of Prime Minister. Each has their own agenda, each attempts to persuade the public why they should receive support. 09/15/08
