Whether by coincidence or clever marketing, the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan coincides with the start of the Muslim world’s top television shows. During this holy month devout Muslims fast during daylight hours, eating only one large meal each day after sunset. After this meal Muslim families sit together and watch the latest shows from Arabic television, sending television ratings in the Arab world to their highest point of the year. Many of these television shows now focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, featuring dramatic scenes of violence and incitement against the State of Israel. An Egyptian series entitled "Nasser", based on the life of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, offers an extremely slanted and provocative account of the Arab-Israeli wars, blaming the entire conflict on the State of Israel. The Syrian series "Letters of Love And War" seen by millions of viewers every day during the month of Ramadan, sensationalizes the deep psychological conflict embodied in the Arab-Israeli conflict. Many Muslim scholars criticize the Ramadan season of soap operas, saying that Muslims should be studying the Koran after meals during Ramadan not watching TV. Yet more importantly, it is now clear that the Ramadan TV season is exploiting its massive viewer ship to mobilize and incite the Arab World into a deep, dark and unpromising path of hatred and violence
