Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal has received a letter written by Noam Schalit for his son Gilad and has promised that it will be given to the captured IDF soldier, according to Qatari reports Friday.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy gave the letter to the emir of Qatar this week during his visit to Syria and asked him to give it to the Hamas chief.
Sarkozy originally wanted Syrian president Bashar Assad to deliver the letter to Mashaal, but the Syrian leader reportedly refused, saying he didn't want to be considered a mediator between Israel and Hamas.
