Iran is prepared to help friendly Moslem nations launch satellites into outer space, Iranian Space Agency head Reza Taghipour said Monday. "I declare that that Iran is ready to help friendly Muslim nations," Taghipour said in an announcement aired on Iranian television. "We are working on the satellites and gradually they will be carried into orbit." The announcement came a day after Iran claimed that it had successfully test-launched a rocket capable of carrying a satellite into outer space

The Iranian news agency announced on Sunday that the Islamic Republic conducted a successful test launch of a home made rocket carrying a dummy satellite into space, paving the way for launching an Iranian satellite into orbit in the future.

A statement released by the IRNA news agency on Sunday declared that the launching was conducted in the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Friday whereby “ Iran’s Safir (messenger) satellite carrier rocket bore Iran’s first Omid (hope) satellite into space.”An unnamed Iranian space official was quoted saying that the rocket released data that was transmitted back to ground control. In 2005, Iran launched its first commercial satellite on a Russian rocket.

The Iranian news agency described the launching as än achievement that has drawn much attention from around the world, especially in Moslem nations, as Iran is heavily sanctioned in the West and the UN Security Council, making it develop its own technology and build every part of equipment needed.”In February, Iran said it had sent a probe into space on the back of a rocket on a mission to prepare fro the satellite launch.08/18/08
