Recent tenders issued by Israel to construct 447 housing units in Har Homa and Beitar Illit outside of Jerusalem have caused an uproar, with Palestinian Authority officials demanding US intervention to bring about a freeze on all settlement building. Mark Regev spokesman of the Prime Minister's office however defended the move saying the construction is taking place in existing communities. 08/10/08
