Yesterday, the State of Israel exchanged 5 living Lebanese terrorists and the bodies of 199 dead terrorists in return for Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, the two Israeli soldiers abducted and killed by Hizbullah in the 2006 cross-border raid which sparked the Second Lebanon War.
In general, the Israeli public has accepted with great bitterness the exchange of a dangerous murderers for two dead soldiers, yet the Israeli public still supports the exchange because it is based on the principle that the State of Israel never leaves a man behind and if a man is left behind, everything possible must be done to bring them back home dead or alive, no matter what the price.
Yet the shock of the exchange was and still is extremely painful, especially when one takes into account the violence and hatred Samir Kuntar exhibited when he murdered a four-year-old girl in northern Israel in 1979.
Samir Kuntar, a member of a Lebanese Communist terrorist organization at the time, tried to take the young girl captive, but seeing he could no longer escape, he decided to murder her in the most gruesome fashion possible, instead of simply letting her go.
He broke her skull against a rock and seeing she was still alive, writhing on the ground, screaming in pain, he took the butt of his rifle and smashed her tiny head until she was dead.
This murderous beast also killed the father of the child, two police officers and is also responsible for the death of the sister of the girl, who was suffocated by the hand of her mother who was trying to protect her by stifling her cries of fear.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment and spent nearly thirty years in Israeli prisons, entering at age 16 and exiting at age 45.
Yet when he arrived in to the El-Raya Stadium in Beirut he was given a hero's welcome, an international audience and a podium to speak his mind.
In his speech Kuntar expressed no remorse for his actions, instead he said he wanted to return to Palestine, to make Israel suffer for the murder of master terrorist Imad Moughanieh and to continue to kill Jews.
Today Samir Kuntar is with Hizbullah, the symbol of all anti-Israel, anti-Semite and anti-Western ideologies in the Middle East and around the world.
During his reception in Beirut he was received by the Prime Minister of Lebanon Fuad Siniora and the President of Lebanon Michel Suleiman.
As I watched this desecration unfold on international television, I was nauseated by the hatred embodied by this one man, but, most importantly, I was absolutely disgusted by the respect, praise and glory that politicians showered on Samir Kuntar.
How is it possible, in the name of brotherhood and unity among the world's communities, to see Samir Kuntar is the symbol of Lebanon?
How is it possible that leaders of a nations, perceived as moderate and intelligent, such as Fuad Seniora, can give a young girl's killer such respect?
How is it possible that Michel Suleiman, who was applauded by the entire international community when he was appointed President of Lebanon, offered the Lebanese army and his own personal helicopter to officially escort a murderer.
And all the while, the international community remains indifferent and mum.
I remain perplexed and deeply concerned about the road upon which Lebanon has embarked.
I am deeply saddened that death, hatred, violence, crime and extremism are the values which Lebanon has chosen to impart on its future generations.
Lebanese leaders who yesterday expressed their love of Samir Kuntar, tomorrow will meet with the leaders of nations around the world.
I hope, but unfortunately I am not naive enough to believe, that perhaps one of the world's leaders will whisper in the ear of Lebanon's heads of state, that one should not confuse national unity with sympathizing with the devil.
On the night of July 16th, 2008, Beirut looked like Nuremberg in 1936.
Kuntar and Nasrallah stood like Goebbels and Hitler as thousands and thousands of Hizbullah supporters shouted death to Israel, wearing black uniforms and raising their arms in the infamous Nazi salute.
On the night of July 16th, 2008, Fuad Seniora and Michel Suleiman chose to make Lebanon not a Lebanese nation but a fascist, Iranian nation.
Their actions will only bring violence, war and chaos.
On the night of July 16th, 2008, the eyes of the little girl that were closed shut by the butt Samir Kuntar's rifle, opened to see the cheers and joy of the people of Beirut.
We, and I hope you too, will never forget the eyes of the four-year-old girl murdered in cold blood by Samir Kuntar.
When we finally released Samir Kuntar because we had no other choice, we released the evil genie from the bottle.
We hope that someone in this world, perhaps us, will eventually put this evil genie back into the bottle where he belongs.
