The New York Times reported on Friday that Israel carried out a massive military exercise earlier this month in rehearsal for a potential strike against Iran's nuclear facilities.

Us officials told the newspaper that more than 100 Israeli fighter planes participated in the manuever which took place over the eastern Mediterranean in the first week of June.

The military exercise appeared to be an effort to focus on long-range strikes and illustrates the seriousness with which Israel views Iran's nuclear program.

The newspaper said that Israeli officials refused to discuss the exercise, but a spokesman for the Israeli military said that the country's air force "regularly trains for various missions in order to confront and meet the challenges posed by the threats facing Israel".

A Pentagon official said that the goal of the excercise was to practice flight tactics, aerial refueling and other procedures which would be needed in a possible strike against Iran's nuclear installations and missile batteries.

The official added that the second goal of the exercise was to send a clear message that Israel was prepared to act militarily if other efforts to stop Iran from producing bomb-grade uranium fail.

Several US officials told the newspaper they did not believe Israel had decided to attack Iran or think such a strike was imminent.

The UN Security Council has imposed several rounds of sanctions on Iran for defying council demands that it suspend its uranium enrichment program, which could be used to make fuel for power plants or atomic weapons.

Iran has refused to buckle to the sanctions and has spurned previous offers of economic benefits to suspend its uranium enrichment, which it says is to produce fuel for electrical power plants rather than for nuclear weapons.

Iran said Thursday it was ready to negotiate over a new package of economic incentives put forward by major powers seeking to persuade Tehran to curb its nuclear work. 06/20/08

Empty threats, for the last

Empty threats, for the last 4 years or so it seems. Israel can't successfully destroy all Iranian nuclear targets on it's own. It needs the US's help and that won't happen either. In a scenario where they did make the mistake of actually attacking, not only will they suffer heavy losses to their air force, they can also says goodbye to their reactor at Dimona. Not to mention Iranian reprisal for many years to come with a very heavy cost to Israel, we all know what those costs will be. The more noise from Israel, the less likely it'll happen. It's a desperate move. Iran is a regional power and it's response will be deadly.

1939 Germany... 2008 Iran

Israel has won every war it has ever been in since 1948. Thats a fact. As far as bombing Iran "been there done that." When a nation is threatened with total anialation it does not just "make a noise," when making preparations to defend it's self. Facts... most Iranians are young and prefer music and just wish they could have a boy friend or girl friend and live a normal peaceful life. Fact, the Iranian military hate the revolutionary guards. Just like the German army hated the SS guards. It is not just nuclear sites that will be hit it, will be the leadership in the Revolutionary Guards. The mad men in the SS not only destroyed the German army but the German nation as well. Iran has the largest educated population in the middle east. They know all that oil money would be better spent on Iranian society and not on a mad man's fantasys, who by the way does't appear to own a tie or change of cloths. That's something else he has in common with Hitler.

Israel's Flaunting Raids or picking a fight?

It is most likely that if we are posting here, we don't know. The true reasons for wars are often not told the masses. Oil and or Land are the primary....Wars are faught by the few who involve the many and always, always a third party involved...a third party that, like a weasel, hides and does not come out..usually...who is the third party that hides in the Iran, Israel Friction? Communication....is very effective when
