A recent report by the UN's Humanitarian Affairs department claimed that since September 2007 until April this year, Israel has increased 607  military checkpoints in the West Bank, a claim Israel has flatly rejected.
Standing outside the Eliyahu checkpoint that straddles the highway between Kalkilya and Nablus, IDF spokeswoman Maj. Avital Leibovitch flatly denied the charges.Israel is investing millions of dollars invested in constructing bypass highways in Palestinian towns and villages allowing Palestinian motorists to travel from one side of the city to the other. One such project in Kalkilya was recently completed.06/19/08
