The Hoopoe has been crowned Israel’s national bird after a sweeping majority in the national competition, President Shimon Peres announced in a ceremony Thursday.According to the Israel Nature Preservation Society, which initiated the project, 155,000 people voted for their favorite bird over the last few months.
