Jimmy Kedoshim, the 48 year old Israeli killed in a mortar attack on Kibbutz Kfar Aza on Friday night, will be buried on Sunday in the kibbutz cemetery.
Kedoshim specialized in aerial photography and was a keen parachutist.
Over the weekend over forty Kassam rockets and mortar shells were fired at the western Negev. Many fell in the town of Sderot, directly hitting a house, a synagogue and other buildings in the town. Three poeple lightly injured in the rocket attacks were taken to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.
On Saturday Defense Minister Ehud Barak visited the kibbutz where Kedoshim was killed as well as other communities hit in the rocket attacks. Barak hinted to reporters that a military operation in Gaza "won't be long" in coming.
On Friday night Kedoshim was fatally wounded while working in the garden in front of his home, , one soldier was moderatley wounded and another soldier and civilian ligfhtly wounded in a mortar shell attack on Kibbutz Kfar Aza in the western Negev, early Friday evening. The wounded were taken to the Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. Other shells caused damage to buildings in the kibbutz including a community hall used by the kibbutz youth.
Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack. Throughout the day on Friday, a number of Kassam rockets and salvos of mortar shells were fired at kibbutzim in the Negev as well as at Sderot.
The early warning system is not able to issue a warning in the event of mortar shell attacks and is only activated in the event that Kassam rockets are fired. Therefore the kibbutz residents were unable to take cover prior to the salvo of mortar shells that hit the community.05/10/08
