Meeting with the foreign press in Jerusalem on Wednesday Prime Minister Ehud Olmertt  called for concerted world action to prevent Iran from acquiring weapons of mass destruction but at the same time hinted that Israel could be holding or planning to hold secret talks with Syria with the hope of achieving peace. While Olmert revealed his desire to talk with President Bashar Assad , Hizbullah with Iranian and Syrian support ,is quietly replenishing its stockpiles of weapons including thousands of long and short distance range rockets, fully aware that in any future battle with Israel it must maintain the upper hand.

Since the end of the second lebanon war Hizbullah has stockpiled thousands of short and long range missiles that have a distance capability of upto 300 kilometers, plunging the entire state of israel in their range and the ability to hit major populated centers in israel as well as major strategic facilities including the nuclear reactor in dimona in the south. The implementation of security council resolution 1701 which led to the deployment of a multi national peacekeeping force in southern lebanon failed to keep Hizbullah in check, who with heavy Iranian funding and Syrian backing continue preparing for the next round of conflict against Israel.03/27/08

Maybe Iran will go broke with all their military spending. Even though they have all that oil, it happened to the Soviet Union. One can hope, anyway.
