Looking back to recent conflicts of the Israel and Palestine- Hector, Toronto.Canada
Looking back to recent history of the Israel and Palestine, it can be seen that, Israel had always looked for a strong Political party which can effectively administer Palestine and at the same time should be supportive of Israel on economic and political fronts. Over the time numerous attempts of truce and mutual understanding had been done with leaders of PLO, Fatah, etc.
One key factor has always been missed by both sides, ie. Policies which reflect Israel as friend, not a foe to the People in Gaza and West Bank.
All efforts in past had been focused on pampering the leaders, they have no desire to change the point of view of the people of Palestine. All leaders portrayed that, they are able to get concessions from Israel. On the flip side people in Israel have soft corner for Palestine. What it amounts to is people in Israel will not be comfortable to support dictator or bigot who takes sides with Israel and have no interest in creating friendly image for Israel in Palestine public.

As can be seen and learned from examples of Iraq and Afghanistan, present installed governments will not be able to move public opinion friendly to west or America, so much so these rulers will not survive without spoon feeding.
Perhaps it is time to change the strategy through change in public opinion, upfront confrontation or collective punishment has failed and has left America on almost solo flight.
It seems very hard to begin thinking that way, but perhaps this is the only workable solution towards sustainable peace.
Having said that, Why not Israel takes first step towards friendship to People of Palestine.
Quartet and TIPH might have political benefits for Israel. Let political process not delay opening GAZA-Egypt Crossing, which is closed since June 10th 2007. There are 6000 Palestinians reported to be stranded.
Perhaps, it is time for Israel to take first unilateral step towards peace by opening Gaza-Egypt crossing.
Dealing people of Palestine fairly will be conducive to better opinion for Israel in public in Palestine and abroad. This will weed out radicals and extremists slowly but surely.

I'm positive that good deed goes a long way and returns for sure.
