A man with dual Israeli and German citizenship was arrested on charges of espionage, the Lebanese media reported on Saturday. According to the reports the man was identified as Daniel Sharon and is currenly being held by the Lebanese military intelligence for questioning.
Sharon , a businessman speaks fluent Arabic. According to his parents interviewed by local meda, they spoke to their son several days ago when he called to wish them well for the holiday. His father said they had no knowledge of Daniel's travel plans and that Israeli security services were dealing with the incident.
Lebanese police were investigating a murder of Mussa al Shalaani, in a Beirut suburb, when the probe led them to Sharon. According to the investigation Shalani had been shot with a gun belonging to his room mate. When police questioned the roommate, he claimed that he had lost the gun. He also told police that he had been in the presence of his German friend staying at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. A hotel employee later told police that Sharon had offered him money in order to register him under a different name.
Police later arrested Sharon and on further examination determined that he had visited Lebanon 11 times since 2005, the last visit had been days before his arrest. and on the day of his arrest he was to have left Lebanon.
