Knesset Speaker Rueven Rivlin said Winston Churchill would have been a war criminal had the same standards from the Goldstone Report been applied to Britain during World War II. His statement comes in advance of an EU debate of the report, which European leaders believe signifies the Continent’s desire to get involved in the problems plaguing the Middle East. Rivlin says it is Israel alone that pays the price, and that Goldstone had no distinction between attacker and defender.

President Shimon Peres believes scuffles with the Palestinians over declaring the Cave of the Patriarchs a Jewish holy site are artificial. His statement comes after Islamic Jihad threatened violence inside Israel for the Government’s decision to put both the Cave and Rachel’s Tomb on the list of Jewish heritage sites. Peres said everyone - regardless of their religion - will always have the right to visit both places. Palestinian President Salam Fayyad called on the international community to deny Israel’s connection to the sites.

A mini riot broke out in the Palestinian village of Azoun when Israeli police entered the town in pursuit of a car thief. They were met with stone throwers, and had to shoot in the air in order to get out. No one was injured.

Brazil doesn’t seem too concerned about Iran. In fact, President Lula says he’s visiting Iran in May, and he plans to buy as much as he can while he’s there. Brazil holds a friendly relationship with the Islamic Republic, and supports Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s drive to go nuclear. Lula claims peace does not involve isolating others - in this case Iran.

Russia says it delayed shipments of a missile air defense system to Iran, and won’t say when the shipment will happen. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov hinted the decision came over concerns that supplying Iran with the equipment would tamper with the regional power balance. He said Russia never takes actions that destabilize one region or another.

Dubai police think someone within Hamas leaked information about the recently slain al-Mabhouh’s trip to the Emirate. The police chief suggested Hamas launch an investigation to get the bottom of the situation. Meanwhile, it is likely new revelations regarding al-Mabhouh’s killing will be exposed in the near future. Dubai police said they have damning information about the killers’ use of diplomatic passports to enter Dubai.

The Sunday Times reports that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu authorized al-Mabhouh’s assassination, and wished agents good luck. The report also claims that the Mossad has temporarily suspended its operations in the Middle East following the exposure of several agents. The agency knew about the extensive security cameras in the hotel al-Mabhouh was staying in, but was surprised by the ability of Dubai police to piece together the footage.

The Arab League is calling for the United Nations General Assembly to convene immediately to discuss the Goldstone Report. That call comes with demands for another resolution that would require U.N. Chief Ban Ki Moon to report on progress made in adopting Goldstone. Such a resolution could start the process of prosecuting Israel at the International Court of Justice. France, Britain and the United States opposed adopting the Goldstone Report due to reservations about the investigation’s findings.

Opposition Head Tzipi Livni cast harsh words about not finding peace. She said Israel will turn into an Arab state if solutions are not found. Livni predicted that at some point, there would be a country between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea in which every person had the right to vote. The eventual Arab majority would obviously mean Israel would be an Arab state.

Hamas figurehead Mahmoud al-Mabhouh sat at the top of the Mossad’s list of targets according to British journalist Gordon Thomas. Thomas wrote the book Gideon’s Spies about the Mossad- which was also the only book approved by the intelligence agency. He said al-Mabhouh’s killing in Dubai has all the marks of the Mossad’s Kidon assassination unit. The Mossad follows a set of guidelines put in place more than 50 years ago to carry out executions against Israel’s enemies, and the Prime Minister must approve of every operation.

The future holds more opportunities for Haredim and Arabs, Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz hopes. He opened the Jerusalem Conference, saying the two groups must be brought more successfully into the Israeli workforce. Jobs would be created for those groups by forcing foreign workers to leave Israel. Steinitz argued that Israel must find its place in economic strategy that closes the gaps between rich and poor.

Kadima may be headed for implosion as tensions between Tzipi Livni and Shaul Mofaz continue to mount. Mofaz demanded that party primaries be held early, and threatened to leave for Likud if his demand is not met. Livni countered Mofaz by holding steady with plans to do primaries in October 2012. Livni said earlier primaries would only encourage mud-slinging and intra-party tensions at a time when Kadima must oppose the government.

Cabinet Minister Benny Begin argues putting Jerusalem up for division in the past damages the city’s future. He said past negotiators for Israel agreed to consider giving up the Temple Mount, the Mount of Olives and the City of David. Begin continued, saying such deals would not again be considered by the Israeli Government. The son of former Prime Minister Menachem Begin made the statement at a conference in Jerusalem.

Lawyers for Yaakov Teitel tested the Jerusalem District Court by asking for a psychological examination of their client. The Court agreed, thus delaying the trial by one month. Teitel stands accused of committing acts of terror against missionaries who try to convert Jews to Christianity in Israel. Teitel worked with the group Yad L’achim, which sought to bring Jews who have converted to other religions - or married non-Jewish spouses - back to Judaism.

Hamas has a British documentary filmmaker behind bars after he entered Gaza to show support for a Palestinian accused of collaborating with Israel. Paul Martin will serve fifteen days for the offense. The Hamas decision to hold Martin surprised many in the journalistic community as the group has largely had a hands-off approach to foreign correspondents since seizing the Strip in 2007.

Fallen Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s corruption trial may be postponed by up to three months. Jerusalem District Prosecutor Eli Abarbanel called for the delay after the Deputy District Prosecutor Uri Korev was put on ‘forced vacation’ after calling the judges ‘donkeys.’ Abarbanel said Korev knows the smallest details of the case, and that it would be foolish to continue without him. Olmert’s lawyers said they saw no reason why the trial should be delayed.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak hinted at differences with America before a meeting with U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staffs Admiral Mike Mullen. Barak said even between friends there are differences, but also ways to solve problems. The two met at the I.D.F.’s Tel Aviv compound to discuss ways for further cooperation between the two countries. Mullen said the U.S. and Israel must continue to work together to resolve the region’s problems.

Avigdor Lieberman never misses a chance to speak his mind. And that’s exactly what the Foreign Minister did regarding the Palestinian Authority this week. He said every conversation begins with claims by the P-A that Israel is not sincere in negotiations. Lieberman called the tactic a larger scheme that seeks to delegitimize Israel. He said another favorite tactic of the P-A is to get foreign governments to issue arrest warrants for Israeli officials.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak refuses to pay for Prime Minister Netanyahu's pet project: a fence spanning the border with Egypt. Baraks refusal stems from objections over spending on the fence instead of other defense needs, such as missile defense systems. Netanyahu says the fence must be built to keep both illegal workers from Africa and Muslim terrorists out of the country. The project would cost more than one billion shekels.

Efforts to water down the expatriate voting bill are proving fruitful. Likud Knesset Member Zeev Elkin predicts the bill will now allow only Israelis outside of Israel for less than a year the right to vote abroad. The possible law raised tensions with Shas, which fought for limiting voting rights to those less than two months outside of the country. The religious parties stand to lose the most ground in the Knesset as a result of the law.

Lebanon rarely joins together, but it happened this week when tens of thousands of Lebanese marched on Beirut to mark the fifth anniversary of slain Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Marchers came from all factions of Lebanons political sphere to wave the countrys national flag. Current Prime Minister Saad Hariri made amends with Syria recently, which was behind the elder Hariris killing.

Iran believes followers of Bahai pose a threat to the regime. A newspaper close to the Revolutionary Guard reports five practitioners of the faith are behind bars after a military round up. One of those arrested is the daughter of a prominent Bahai member jailed since 2008. Iran blames followers of the faith for disseminating pictures of riots following the countrys recent elections to news outlets abroad.

Elections in the West Bank are set for July 17, but the decision comes with Hamas’s refusal to participate. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for the elections to be held. They were supposed to have taken place in January, but a deepening power struggle between Abbas’s Fatah Party and Hamas prevented that from happening.

Saudi Prince Turki al-Faisal sought to downplay his handshake with Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon at a conference in Munich. Instead, the Prince called for the international community to address what he called Israeli threats toward Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinians. That statement came in response to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s suggestion that Israel would take down the Assad Regime in war after Syria threatened war with Israel earlier in the week.

Muslim students created a raucous scene at a speech in Los Angeles by Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren. He was a guest speaker at the Irvine campus of the University of California when about 100 Muslim students began shouting ‘murderer’. Police escorted the students out of the room, and university leaders shared their embarrassment over the issue. Oren said this is not Tehran as evidenced by free speech. Irvine is home to one of the largest Persian-Muslim communities in the U-S.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made a plea to foreign leaders on Iran, demanding paralyzing sanctions be put in place now. He met with foreign ambassadors in Israel to point out the connection between Iran’s statements calling for Israel to disappear, and the parallel with Tehran’s drive to increase its nuclear capacities. Netanyahu said it is not enough to impose another round of moderate sanctions on the Islamic Republic. The Prime Minister also said he expects any government to condemn Iran’s calls for Israel’s annihilation, but that words must be backed with action.
