Vice Prime Minister and Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya'alon said on Thursday that all of Iran's nuclear facilities are vulnerable to a military strike. He said that the West had the ability to strike, but as long as Iran was not convinced that there's a determination to follow through with it, they would continue with their manipulations. The vice PM's comments counter reported remarks by U.S. defense officials quoted last week, according to which the Pentagon was not in possession of conventional arms strong enough to destroy all of Iran's nuclear facilities.

Egypt's football federation has been dissolved from violence erupting after a match, leaving At least 74 people dead, and hundreds more injured in Port Said. Supporters of the home team Al Masry and Egypt's top club Al Ahly stormed the pitch and scores of fans were stabbed to death and others suffocated after they became trapped in a corridor as they tried to flee. The clashes, which are the worst case of football violence in the country and the deadliest worldwide since 1996, have sparked fresh concerns about Egypt's stability.

An IDF combat soldier from the Judea and Samaria Division lost contact with his fellow soldiers during operational activity in the village of Budrus near Ramallah on Wednesday. For a reason yet unknown, some of the troops stepped out of their jeeps and one lost contact with his battalion without anyone noticing. Palestinian residents escorted him out of the village unharmed where he rejoined his friends.

US Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro visted Kibbutz Sasa in the Northern Galilee, home to Plasan factory, in late January to learn about the company's advanced armor technologies, which have saved countless American soldiers' lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Israel's Plasan factory manufactures armor, which is used in the majority of the US military's armored vehicles. Plasan has been able to surge the production of up-armor kits for Humvees and for mine-resistant vehicles.

Media personality-turned-politician Yair Lapid revealed some of his political views on Thursday, indicating during a Facebook exchange that he opposed the division of Jerusalem, saying that the capital was more than just a place. He also said that Jerusalem was part of his history and national ethos and that he thought it belonged to the people of Israel and not to anyone else. Lapid also promised to abrogate the Tal Law and replace it with a state national-service agency.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu scored a convincing victory in the Likud primaries held Tuesday, winning more than 70% of the vote. Netanyahu commented after the vote by expressing that he would continue to show responsible leadership and take the lead in education, the economy, and security for the sake of all citizens in the State of Israel. Meanwhile, members of the campaign headquarters of Netanyahu's rival, Moshe Feiglin, received the results with excitement, and especially the voting figures beyond the Green Line, where the hard-line candidate won convincingly in several communities.

As the debate over a possible military strike against Iran continues to grow, Mossad Chief Tamir Pardo met last Thursday in Washington with CIA Director David Petraeus. Petraeus outlined America's red line with regards to the Iranian nuclear menace and said that Israel viewed the Iran threat as "existential." Meanwhile, the US National Director of Intelligence, James Clapper, stressed that the US did not know if Iran would eventually decide to build nuclear weapons.

The Israeli team took the first place in two categories in the 2012 European Bread Baking Cup over the weekend, beating culinary powers like France and Germany and leaving countries like Portugal and Britain far behind. The competition, held in Rimini Fiera , Italy, included four different categories. The Israeli's won for Innovative Bread with a Health Focus and Baked Dessert. In the first category, they prepared a modern version of pita bread with falafel. They baked green pita bread (with spinach), filled it with cheese balls coated with pistachio, and sprinkled yogurt sauce on top.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon kicked off a series of meetings Wednesday with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. Ban told President Shimon Peres that Israel should take steps to assist the Palestinians and illustrate that the Palestinian state is already being built on the ground. Ban is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is expected to make the same calls for Israeli gestures. Ban is one of several foreign leaders who have recently called on Netanyahu to make gestures toward the Palestinians in order to avoid a breakdown in the Amman talks.

Turnout for the Likud party's primary elections was unusually low on Tuesday. By mid-afternoon, only 14 percent of eligible voters had cast their ballot to elect a new party leader and central committee. Approximately 4,500 people had voted by early afternoon while125,000 Likud members are eligible to vote, in more than 150 countrywide polling stations. The party's current leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was expected to win easily against his only challenger, extreme rightist Moshe Feiglin.

The US Congress has threatened to cut military and financial aid to Egypt, citing harassment of non-governmental organizations. The recent tug of war between Cairo and Washington began when a number of US citizens working to promote democracy and human rights in Egypt were barred from leaving the country. Egyptian officials have defended the raid as part of legitimate investigation into the groups' work and funding. American aid to Egypt includes a yearly stipend of $ 1.3 billion to the army and an additional $300 million in economic aid.

Syrian government forces reasserted control of Damascus suburbs on Tuesday after beating back rebels at the capital's doorstep. Western and Arab diplomats piled more pressure on Syrian President Bashar Assad, pushing for a UN Security Council resolution which would call for him to step down to defuse to 10-month-old uprising against his family's dynastic rule. A draft United Nations resolution on Syria calls for President Assad to hand power to his deputy and insists there will be no use of foreign forces in the country.

After 18 years of tough negotiations, the Catholic Church agreed to waive its demand to receive sovereignty over the Cenacle (the location of the "Last Supper") on Jerusalem's Mount Zion. In return, Israel agreed to consider giving the Church access to the place and even consider a leasing option. It was also agreed that the Vatican would start paying a reduced property tax for its assets in Israel. Over the years, Israel suffered losses of tens of millions of shekels due to the Vatican's failure to pay property tax.

In a recent study, Israel ranks fourth compared to 30 Arab countries in its standard of living and gross domestic product per capita, and is preceded by only Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. At the end of 2011 Israel preceded nearly all Arab countries. Most figures fail to include the drop in GDP in countries which recently experienced an uprising or change of government.

US defense chief Leon Panetta said that Iran could develop a nuclear bomb in about a year and create the means for delivery in a further two to three years. Panetta maintained that if Washington receives intelligence that Iran is proceeding with developing a nuclear weapon, they will take whatever steps are necessary to stop it as would the Israeli's.

Hamas chief Khaled Meshal made his first official visit to Jordan on Sunday since the kingdom expelled him more than a decade ago. After talks with King Abdullah, Meshal insisted that Jordan will not be a substitute homeland for the Palestinians. Meshal also blasted Israel for trying to make Jordan the substitute Palestinian state. Meshal was accompanied by Qatar's Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. The visit was planned before an uprising erupted in Syria, where Hamas has had its main headquarters outside the Gaza Strip.

Israel Air Force chief Ido Nehushtan said Sunday that Israel's aerial superiority in the Middle East is in danger, since neighboring countries are being equipped with increasingly advanced weaponry, which could end up in the hands of terrorists. Nehushtan said that he is very worried by the situation in Syria and said that despite Syria's turmoil, it is still purchasing advanced weapons such as planes and anti-missile aircraft worth billions.

Israel said on Sunday it plans to build a railway line linking its Red Sea and Mediterranean ports that could handle potential overflow from the Suez Canal on the freight route between Asia and Europe. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet the idea of ships dropping off goods in one port to be picked up by a second ship at the other, had stirred interest from major exporters India and China. The project has yet to receive final approval or secure funding.

More than two-thirds of cancer patients who were prescribed medical marijuana to combat pain are reportedly satisfied with the treatment. The study - conducted recently at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, in conjunction with the Israel Cancer Association - involved 264 cancer patients who were treated with medical marijuana for a full year. Some 61 percent of the respondents reported a significant improvement in their quality of life as a result of the medical marijuana, while 56 percent noted an improvement in their ability to manage pain.

After exploratory talks aimed at relaunching negotiations ended in a deadlock, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Peace prospects with the Palestinians are looking poor. Netanyahu's comments came after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told reporters in Ramallah that Israel was to blame for the failure of the recent round of talks, to relaunch direct talks. Abbas claimed that during talks mediated by Jordan in recent weeks, Israel had presented an unclear position on security matters and on the question of borders between Israel and a future Palestinian state.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak called for a new law to replace the controversial Tal Law, and new provisions that would provide free higher education to those who serve in the IDF. Barak said that the government should extend the Tal Law by one year, as opposed to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's proposition to extend it five years, in order to allot a period of time in which to revise the law.

The Syrian army has moved to retake control of the Damascus suburbs from rebel forces. Troops backed by tanks have been shelling rebel-held areas to the east and north of the city. Dozens of people have reportedly been killed in what activists describe as the fiercest fighting around the capital during the 10 month-uprising. The major escalation came as the Arab League suspended its month-old monitoring mission in the country. Activists have reported fierce clashes between soldiers and deserters and authorities warned the country would be "cleansed" of outlaws.

The number of foreign tourist stays totaled some 10 million, as in 2010. Hotel Association President Ami Federman says that it's a nice accomplishment that they have maintained stability in the number of hotel stays and occupancy in a year of turbulences and crises.

The former MI chief also expressed hope that Iran will become part of the process- He said that The Arab Spring was cause for concern in Israel and that Israel was willing to face the risks alongside the hope it arises.
